We are excited to announce that Garry Oye, former Chief of Wilderness from US National Parks Service, will be speaking at the European Wilderness Academy Days.
Garry Oye will share experiences from his 36 year career in Wilderness stewardship. Since 1964 over 44 million hectares of land have been designated as Wilderness by the US Congress and signed into law by Presidents. He will discuss some of the many challenging situations that the formal designation of Wilderness has presented in the US in the last 50 years. Four Federal agencies manage Wilderness, each with a slightly different emphasis or approach. Garry will share some of his experiences and attempt to create connections to local challenges here in European Wilderness.
